Activist of the Month: Eric Nakano

API Equality-LA's Activist of the Month: Eric Nakano What is one sound that characterizes you?
It would have to be the sound of my shoes hitting the pavement as I run from one thing to the next. I have a horrible habit of running late to things and so am always in a rush. But I recently set my car clock ahead a few minutes to trick me into being on time and it seems to be working!

Where are you right now?
At work typing up contact reports. I’m taking a break and looking around my office. I really should redecorate.

What is one thing about you that surprises people?
In high school, I was the Vice President of the Young Republicans Club. I also thought I was straight. It was a confusing time.

What committee are you involved with in API Equality?
The Public Education Committee.

How did you get involved?
Changing hearts and minds starts with education. The public education committee seeks to start a dialogue with other communities and engage them in our issues. Also, it's a great way to meet some very eligible and single people.

Why is it important to continue this fight for marriage equality?
The issue has never been marriage; it’s been an issue of fairness and equality. Pressing our case on this issue will ensure a more just and equitable world, and will allow LGBT youth to grow and reach their full potential without shame or fear.

Facebook or Twitter?
Facebook – those quizzes on there are addicting! I learned recently that I am most like William McKinley when it comes to Presidents, most like Napolean when it comes to historical leaders, and most like Jafar when it comes to Disney villains.

Coffee or tea?
Tea – preferably peppermint or herbal. Good for digestion and has some antioxidants.
